Weekends
Things to do in the High Desert
Weekends here are outdoor and spread out: a lake for fishing, a regional park, a golf course, a mountain to climb. Here are the closest, by name, in miles.
On the water
Mojave Narrows Regional Park, about 11.1 miles away down by the Mojave River in Victorville, is the green surprise of the high desert: Horseshoe and Pelican lakes with year-round fishing, cottonwoods and meadows, camping, a splash pad and equestrian trails. San Bernardino County runs it. Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area, about 28.8 miles south on the Cajon side of the mountains, is the big water: boating, fishing, swim beaches and shoreline trails run by California State Parks.

Parks and the ballfields
Civic Center Park on Dale Evans Parkway, about 5.5 miles, has an aquatic center, an amphitheater and two dog parks. Horsemen's Center on Highway 18, about 5.6 miles, has a BMX track, horse arenas and hiking trails through the rocks. The parks and trails page has the rest, including the skate park at James A. Woody, about 3.0 miles.
Golf and the mountain
The Apple Valley Golf Course, a public eighteen-hole course off Rancherias Road, is about 6.8 miles. Bell Mountain, the desert peak north of town, is about 12.3 miles and is the local climb, a walk up for the view back over the valley.
The homes are one, two and three bedroom townhomes. The single-level one bedroom is about 660 square feet from $1,050 a month, the two bedroom townhome about 930 square feet from $1,395, and the three bedroom townhomes run to about 1,236 square feet. Every home has central heat and air, a gas range, and a dining area that opens onto its own fenced backyard with a deck. Each open home shows its current rent on the availability page.
